Lab results came back. Yipee right? Actually, there are some answers in the labs. (Don't worry, I almost died when I heard that too) Turns out, I have H-pylori. It's an intestinal infection which could very well be the cause of my increased nausea and stomach problems. We've already established the fact that digestive dysmotility is part of my disease process, but having H-pylori would very likely exacerbate this issue. So I need to start a course of two antibiotics and an acid-blocker for two weeks straight. You read that correctly, two antibiotics for two weeks. I called the pharmacy about it, and they explained to me that this course of antibiotics and the acid blocker costs $450 without insurance. So I also nearly died when I heard that as well. I have hope that this will help me with all of the problems I have been having. Maybe it will give me some more energy. I don't know. Something has to improve the quality of my life. I've been hoping for something that will help my quality of life improve for a great deal of time now. Maybe this is something that will help. I have hope that it will.
More interesting issues came up as well. If you remember correctly, the labs that were drawn last week were also to test my cortisol levels, which are indicative of metabolic stress. Not surprisingly, my cortisol levels have been notoriously high for quite some time now. Last weeks labs weren't any different, in fact they were increased from the last time cortisol labs were drawn. This means over time, my body has been under more and more stress. The good thing is, the level does go down later in the day, which is what the labs in the afternoon told Dr. P. However, he did say that could very well be contributing to these "spells" (he calls them spells, I call them seizures...and so does anyone who's seen them). Anyway, he said that there is nothing he can prescribe to lower my cortisol levels. But, there is a supplement he wants me to try after I finish my course of antibiotics and acid blocker. Starting this round of antibiotics could lead to some sort of crisis, or some sort of issue, and so could the supplement. In order to know what is causing a potential problem, I need to be on one thing at a time. I haven't completely decided what my decision is going to be regarding this supplement. Insurance surely will not cover it, so I have to decide depending on how much it costs. Yes, it has the potential to improve my quality of life so I believe I should be willing to give it a chance. So, I have to be in prayer about it, I have to think a lot about it as well.
I trust that God will lead me in what is right.
