Well, today has certainly been a very interesting day. At first it looked like I was going to see the urologist and have the surgery in Sioux Falls but my PCP worked his magic and got me in to Mankato, which is an hour closer to where I live so I turned around and headed to Mankato. It seems like they were really busy this morning because I only saw and talked to Dr. Latefi for like 30 seconds. This was only long enough to hear him say "You need a stent in now" and then he set me up with his Physician Assistant, who does a good job from what I can tell.
She explained to me that they could do the stent in the clinic or in the OR. I opted for the OR right away, no point in putting myself through any more pain. So they admitted me to the hospital while I was waiting to go into surgery. Went into surgery at 4:00 PM and was out fairly quickly. Unfortunately I'm in a lot of pain and will need another surgery in the near future to remove the kidney stone as well as the stent. So next week I will have to follow up with Dr. Latefi. Before the second surgery can happen, I need to be free from signs of infection, which includes fever. I've been running a fever all day, actually for the past four days.
I am still in quite a bit of pain, but I'm told this is par for the course with this surgery. Tonight I will be inpatient for sure overnight and hopefully discharged tomorrow. Of course, the hospital isn't the most ideal place to stay but I need the rest and a chance to return to my baseline which will take time. I need to try to be patient with my body and the recovery process and give myself time to heal. We will see how that goes. Please pray for a smooth recovery. I would say speedy, but we all know that's not going to happen! :)
