I had an appointment with Dr. G on Friday. My blood pressure was approximately 163/84 and pulses throughout the appointment ran between 110-125. He was concerned about my TSH level being elevated, but that ended up being due to the seizure I had on Thursday. He drew some labs but did not test for a Potassium level, which I requested today just to keep an eye on things. These labs were drawn on Friday, and I have been working to try to hydrate myself pretty regularly since Thursday. Dr. G was very concerned about all of the symptoms I have presented with, but particularly the seizure and the nausea as well as the unstable vitals. He requested an EKG, which came back as Sinus Tachycardia. In layman's terms, that means that there are no arrhythmias as well as no cardiomyopathy so far. This is a good thing, but it does not explain why my vitals have been, and continue to be all over the place.
Because of these issues, Dr. G made some med changes. He added Lorazepam .5 mg 1/2 to 1 tab tid PRN, increased the Metoprolol to 37.5 mg every day, decreased the Elavil to 25mg every night, and increased my nightly Lyrica dose to 50 mg. He also added Zofran to help with the nausea, but it has only taken the edge off of it. He saw me again today and released me to go back to work. In addition, he scheduled a small bowel study for Wednesday morning. I thoroughly discussed my suspicions and hopes with him. He asked me if there were any issues that were more pressing or more bothersome. I explained to him that there isn't really any one thing that is more pressing with me, that they are all constant and bother me a great deal. I explained to him that my quality of life is nowhere near desirable. I am miserable most of the time and I find it amazing that I am even able to function somewhat normally.
So...he is going to try to coordinate Gastroenterology, Urology, and the Mito Specialist at Mayo around July 19th within a day or three. My mind is blown! I don't know how to digest this. I am so used to being ignored and finally I have a doctor that is paying attention to me and wants me to have a better quality of life. The small bowel study is on Wednesday and I am very anxious for this all to happen. I'm obviously still trying to figure this out, and even if I get the diagnosis I'm sure I will, the fight is still going to be difficult.
In the meantime, I have this precious little boy to love on tonight...my friend Brittany's son Bentley. So, I will be going now.
